The 9-seater airplane is powered by a single General Electric H80 engine. It has a maximum range of 1,500 kilometers carrying a 2,000 kg payload while cruising at 300 kilometers per hour. The LMS-901 project was launched in 2019 and the first prototype was shown at MAKS airshow in Moscow in July 2021 with the maiden flight scheduled before the end of 2021. The LMS-901 airplane is expected to enter service by 2023 as replacement for the venerable An-2. Baikal-Engineering expects to produce 150 airplanes by 2030 with up to 300 aircraft produced throughout the lifespan of the program. In September 2024, the VK-800 engine was selected to power the new airplane beginning in 2026.
